FULL TIME COURSE CONTENTSage Academy of performing Arts was established in 2001 when Principal Lucy Sage had the vision of providing professional vocational training to students in the North East. Her mission was to prove that first class, quality training could be available locally, without the need to travel South. We are the North East’s only full time vocational collage specialising in Musical Theatre. We provide three years of stimulating and dynamic training which will enable graduates to pursue a professional career in the highly demanding and constantly evolving world of performing arts.Sage Academy is committed to providing the best education and training possible, enabling students the chance to achieve their full potential in an exciting, caring and nurturing environment. Our team of dedicated staff recognise each individuals needs, talents and strengths and develop them to create multi-skilled professional performers. It is not something to be entered into lightly - we look only for those seriously dedicated, ambitious, naturally able and primarily, talented. Students must realise the hard work and commitment needed in order to undertake a career in this diverse and intense industry. If you think you have what it takes, then your first step towards achieving your dream can begin at Sage….EXAMINATIONS / ASSESSMENTS:Student progression and achievement is regularly monitored through an internal and external assessment programme, those who successfully complete their three years of training graduate with a Sage Academy Diploma. Vocational Examinations: All students are able to take the following examinations (depending upon prior level of training), IDTA: ETM: LAMDA: Academic Examinations: Students on our Full Time Diploma Course complete Performance Studies, with a view to obtaining an A-level (GCSE level A2) qualification. The Academy is a registered OCR examination centre. The course is conducted by experienced and successful teachers, in a distinctly "non-school" environment. The course is intensive, and requires of the students a level of commitment equivalent to that expected for their vocational studies. Song: In recent years established professionals have surprised the public with their versatility. How many have released hit records or performed in West End musicals or National tours? This is the by-product of a versatile training. The performer limited to one medium of the performing arts is limiting them self in the amount of work they can do; It is our aim to create professionals who have no limits. All styles of music will be covered, from classical through to pop. Equal emphasis will be placed on technique (breathing, control etc.) style and performance, with focus on both solo and group work. The detailed needs of each individual student will be considered. Everyone has a voice, the role of the Academy is to find and maximize the potential of that voice.Dance:The most vibrant of all art forms, dance is, of course, studied in equal depth to the rest of the performing arts. The intense exercise creates a fitter individual enabling singers and actor’s greater physical control and awareness of their bodies, and creating strength for the dancers. All aspects of dance from tap to ballet; jazz to contemporary will be studied, leaving our students as versatile innovative and knowledgeable professionals, able to adapt to all dance faculties.Drama:Drama is a fundamental element of the performing arts. No Song, Dance or (of course) Dramatic work is complete without characterisation and appropriate emotional content. Therefore Drama plays an important part of the course. Taking the view that all our students will be working in the modern world, our drama course will be right up to the minute. While the course will feature some work on Classics and the history of theatre, it will emphasise modern dramatic theory. Course components include screen acting and camera awareness, intensive character studies, stage and vocal technique, audition technique and preparation, script studies and guest workshop’s from professionals introducing the widest possible range of opportunities to today’s actors.
